Overwhelming Demand Crashes Canadian Online Gambling Website

As soon as the online gambling website PlayNow.com, which is an expansion project of the BC Lottery Corporation launched, it crashed. The reason was due to too many players demanding the game. The website had to close for maintenance because there was so much traffic, according to the president of the corporation, Michael Graydon. It is not surprising really since the site hit 100% capacity on day one of the launch. British Columbians just love it! Obviously unprepared for the overwhelming response, the site closed and some upgrades were made to handle the demand.

Although the site was only claiming to be down for half a day, at 5pm Pacific time, it was still not up and running. This stirred up a lot of controversy since this is the first government-sanctioned online casino in North America. The next morning the site was launched again by B.C. Minister of Housing and Social Development Rich Coleman. The website is now prepared to handle various casino games, sports, lotteries, bingo, and still more. It is expected that this site will bring in about $100 million in revenue. This money will be used for education, social programs, and health care and if it wasn't for this website the money would go right to illegal offshore gambling websites.

The plan is to market the site by offering free money to those who register but NDP house leader Mike Farnworth does not believe that this is right and should not be allowed. The gig is to offer anyone who signs up a free ten bucks to gamble with plus, anyone that spends $100 during the month of August will receive another $100 free as part of the promotion.
